Premier audio equipment biz Sound Devices has announced some serious upgrades to their gear. If you're running any of their equipment, you'll want to check this out.

The 8-Series has been crushing it since 2019, and the new V11.0 firmware is pushing things forward. The CL-16 Linear Fader Control Surface gets the biggest love with a waveform display, speed shuttling that goes up to 32x, and way better navigation tools. Plus, you get fader calibration and more channel colour options to keep your workflow organised.

“We’re constantly refining our products based on what users need in the field,” says Sound Devices CEO Matt Anderson. “These upgrades reflect our appreciation for the industry professionals who depend on our gear every day.”

The Astral Wireless is getting some attention too. They’re previewing new firmware features exclusively for IBC attendees, and they’ve simplified the product names to make more sense. The ARX32, ARX16, and ARX8 replace the confusing A20-SuperNexus, A20-Nexus, and A20-Nexus Go names.

What’s cool about Sound Devices is they actually listen to working engineers and keep updating their firmware instead of just pushing new hardware. When you’re dealing with critical recordings, that kind of support matters.

The company’s been doing this for over 25 years from their Wisconsin headquarters, building gear that shows up on everything from major films to live events. Their stuff just works, which is why pros keep coming back.

With solid updates to proven products and new wireless tech coming, they’re keeping their spot as a go-to choice for serious audio work.
