Words by Eli Duxson

The auction also includes Cobain’s Dodge Dart, personal drawings, and some of his all access passes!

Nirvana set the world on fire when they dropped Nevermind and changed the face and shape of music, especially at the time. A byproduct of that no doubt is ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ whose music video is etched into iconic history, and you can now get your hands on that history.

What you need to know:

  • Kurt Cobain’s Fender Mustang from ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ will go to auction.
  • A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the mental health charity ‘Kicking The Stigma.’
  • Another item available includes Cobain’s 1965 Dodge Dart 170 four-door sedan – the only known surviving car that was owned and driven by Cobain.

Keep up to date with the latest industry news here.

The Fender Mustang Kurt Cobain played in that music video will be publicly sold for the first time at auction as part of Julien’s Auctions’ Music Icons three-day auction event taking place between May 20 – May 22 live at Hard Rock Cafe in New York and online.

In honour of the upcoming Mental Health Awareness Month in May, a portion of the proceeds from the auction of this legendary guitar and select Kurt Cobain items will benefit the mental health charity ‘Kicking The Stigma.’

Another item available includes Cobain’s 1965 Dodge Dart 170 four-door sedan – the only known surviving car that was owned and driven by Cobain.

The lovingly named “Baby Blue” is conservatively estimated at US$400,000 – $600,000 and will be accompanied with an exclusive NFT from the collection of Kurt’s sister Kim Cobain who has owned the car for the last 28 years.

For more ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ memorabilia, Cobain’s iconic personally owned and worn green Fetalini striped short-sleeve sweater that was featured in the music video will be available as an NFT, as will a pair of black canvas Converse Jack Purcell shoes that were owned and worn by Cobain with the left shoe that reads “Fuhgawz” and the right shoe “Foogauzie”.

Also available at the auction will be Cobain’s personally drawn 1985 Iron Maiden “Killers” skateboard deck artwork featuring the Iron Maiden mascot “Eddie,” his original artwork of Michael Jackson, and some personally owned travel itineraries and all access passes – namely one of his Australian Nevermind tour passes.
