Jason Richardson’s Sterling Cutlass now shipping in Kokiri Forest Green

Words by Mixdown

The All That Remains guitarist’s signature model now comes in a deep green finish over a poplar burl top, in both six- and seven-string versions.

Jason Richardson’s Sterling by Music Man Cutlass now comes in Kokiri Forest, a deep green finish that lets the grain of a poplar burl veneer top show through, and both the six- and seven-string versions are shipping now. Zelda fans will recognise the name straight away, though the guitar underneath is built for players who spend most of their time above the 15th fret.

Richardson came up through Born of Osiris and Chelsea Grin, put out his first instrumental solo album in 2016 and spent nearly seven years playing lead in All That Remains before leaving in 2025 to focus on his own career. Along the way, his mix of sweeping, tapping and legato runs has made him one of the most closely watched shred players of the past decade. His Artist Series Cutlass was designed around that technique, and Kokiri Forest joins a lineup of finishes that already includes a natural poplar burl burst.

The poplar burl veneer sits on a lightweight alder body, and a custom-contoured lower horn clears the way to all 24 frets so the top of the neck doesn’t feel like a stretch. A roasted maple neck and rosewood fingerboard keep things fast and stable, and both models share a 25.5-inch scale.

The pickups are a pair of custom high-output humbuckers designed for Richardson’s model. Two push-push controls add some extra range to them, with the volume knob giving a boost for solos and the tone knob splitting the coils for thinner, cleaner sounds. A modern tremolo works alongside locking tuners, so heavy use of the bar shouldn’t send the tuning drifting.

The six-string suits players after tight, focused articulation, while the seven-string adds an extra low string for the extended range that so much modern metal relies on, with a 49.5mm nut to give that extra string room.
