Now entering its 14th year, this year’s Music Victoria Awards coincide with the 10th anniversary of the coveted Melbourne Music Week, so you already know it’ll be a big one. Interestingly enough, this year’s Music Victoria Awards are the first to be held without the support of The Age, with the newspaper stepping away from its major partnership with the awards ceremony. Thankfully, Triple R 102.7FM and PBS 106.7FM have stepped in to fill the void left by the paper – community radio was always cooler than some crusty newsrag anyway.
The 14th Music Victoria Awards also sees a few more changes integrated to serve the best interests of the community, the most notable of which being the renaming of the award’s Global category to Best Intercultural Act. Music Victoria has also launched this year’s self-submission portal for those who think they’re worthy – although you’ll have to be a member of Music Victoria to put your hand up. Check out the categories open for self-submission – you’ve got up until Saturday August 31 to get ’em in, and nominees are announced on Thursday October 10.
