THE AGE MUSIC VICTORIA AWARDS & FACE THE MUSIC TO RETURN IN NOVEMBER

Having found the addition of a self-nominating process, whereby venues and artists can put their own work forward for consideration, to be a success, the 2017 awards will embrace this system once again. To be eligible artists must have released an album or EP between September 2016 and Thursday August 31 2017 and have at least 50% of their act residing in Victoria for a minimum of two years. See the full list of categories open for submission below.

Best Regional Venue (under 50 gigs per year), Best Regional Venue (over 50 gigs per year), Best Venue (under 500 capacity), Best Venue (over 500 capacity) and Best Festival. Best Blues Album, Best Country Album, Best Soul, Funk, R’n’B or Gospel Album, Best Jazz Album, Best Hip Hop Album, Best Electronic Act, Best Heavy Album, Best Aboriginal Act, Best Global or Reggae Album, Best Folk or Roots Album and Best Experimental or Avant-Garde Act.

In other Victorian music news, the two day industry conference Face The Music has announced its return, taking place on Thursday November 23 and Friday November 24. The event takes the form of workshops, panel discussions, industry interviews, and showcase performances, having taken over the State Library Victoria during Melbourne Music Week in 2016. This year the event promises a new venue and several changes to its setup, with more details being available soon.
