Australian live entertainment industry unites for new body dedicated towards COVID-19 recovery

In a press release, the Live Entertainment Industry Forum (LEIF) claims that their mission is “to support the safe reactivation of events with live audiences across Australia from July as restrictions are eased,” with aims to implement a comprehensive strategy to assist with the process.

LEIF will implement measures around cleaning, regularly sanitation, contact tracing, crowd management, physical distancing and health monitoring for all events. Led by former Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland, the industry body also includes executives from Live Nation, Chugg Entertainment, WME, TEG, Frontier Touring and Live Performance Australia, among a number of high profile figures representing major sporting stadiums around Australia.

“This pandemic has brought our industry to a complete standstill,” a statement from Sutherland read today. “The thousands of cancelled sporting events, concerts, festivals, theatre, family and comedy shows, and all the associated revenues related to them, can never be replaced.

“Our industry was the first to close during COVID-19 and it will be one of the last to fully re-open. The cultural, creative and sports industries supports the livelihoods of around 175,000 Australians, many of whom are casual or part time. The industry also contributes an estimated $150 billion to the Australian economy… We need a clear roadmap to get our industry back to work, while playing a bigger role in the post COVID-19 economic recovery of our nation.”
