BIGSOUND's Goolwal Goolwal program returns with an expanded celebration of First Nations voices and talent.
The Goolwal Goolwal program at BIGSOUND 2025 promises to be the most comprehensive celebration of Indigenous excellence yet, with a dynamic lineup of panels, performances and cultural experiences spanning the entire festival period. Translated from traditional Yuggera language meaning Big Sound, Goolwal Goolwal has become an integral component of the annual music conference and showcase festival.

Curated by a team of First Nations industry professionals and artists, the Goolwal Goolwal program will feature both established leaders and emerging voices from Indigenous communities nationwide. The program kicks off on Monday 1 September with an official BIGSOUND Eve Welcome Event at the Goolwal Garden in Fortitude Valley’s Sound Garden, providing delegates and guests an opportunity to connect before the main conference begins.

Renowned artist Barkaa headlines multiple panel discussions, including Pass The Mic, Not The Trauma: Navigating Parenthood in the Industry on Tuesday 2 September and Leave Britney Alone: Navigating Notoriety on Wednesday 3 September. Both sessions are presented in collaboration with Support Act and draw on the Malyangapa, Barkindji artist’s extensive industry experience.
A keynote conversation between Bad Apples founder Briggs and acclaimed Gomeroi rapper Kobie Dee takes place on Wednesday 3 September at Fortitude Music Hall. The discussion will explore their distinguished careers and insights into the growth of First Nations excellence in Australian music.
Bad Apples Music celebrates its 10th anniversary with Now And Forever: BIGSOUND Edition on Tuesday 2 September, showcasing the label’s decade of nurturing First Nations talent. The Awesome Black Showcase, presented by Awesome Black, will feature a diverse roster of Indigenous artists on the Brunswick Street Mall stage, spanning genres from hip hop to electronic music.
Musical highlights continue with Yangada in the Goolwal Garden on Wednesday 3 September, featuring the sharing of knowledge through songs and stories. Thursday 4 September brings The Block Party Connect: From Boorloo to Meanjin, presented by FNFOCUS and FLEWNT, featuring West Coast talent including Downsyde, Taija and JJ Vacant.
The program opens with a traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony delivered by community leader Sandra King during BIGSOUND’s Opening Ceremony on Tuesday 2 September.
