Gibson Custom has made history by releasing the first-ever signature mandolins for a female artist, honouring two-time GRAMMY nominee Sierra Hull, the only woman to have been nominated for and won seven International Bluegrass Music Association “Mandolin Player of the Year” awards.

The Sierra Hull F-5 Master Model and F-5G mandolins are now available worldwide, marking a significant milestone for both the artist and the legendary instrument maker. Both models feature Hull’s distinctive Sierra Burst VOS varnish finish and come with an exclusive case that reflects her artistry.
“We spent about two years talking and dreaming about what these mandolins would become,” Hull explains. “This was the first time I’ve gotten to see the process of building mandolins up close and personal, which has been such a beautiful and fun thing to witness.”
The F-5 Master Model is built to the exact specifications of Hull’s original instrument, featuring an F-style body with multi-ply bound eastern curly maple back and carved red spruce top. Custom touches include Hull’s narrow neck profile, an engraved truss rod cover with her signature, and silver-plated Waverly machine heads. Each comes with a Sierra Hull BlueChip pick, stickers, custom paisley leather strap, and a vintage replica case.
Meanwhile, the F-5G offers an accessible entry point whilst maintaining Hull’s specifications. Built on Gibson’s F-5G platform, it features a two-piece quarter-sawn figured red maple body with solid Sitka spruce top and—for the first time on an F-5G—a hand-applied VOS varnish finish in Sierra Burst.
Hull has redefined what’s possible on mandolin since making her Grand Ole Opry debut at age 10. Her genre-bending approach has earned praise from everyone from Eric Clapton to Dolly Parton, and her latest album, A Tip Toe High Wire, showcases her continued evolution as both player and songwriter.
