Fishman team up with Greg Koch for Signature Series Gristle-Tone P90 pickups

Words by Sam McNiece

With multiple voicing options onboard.

Expanding upon their Fluence range of pickups, which they say are ‘free from hum, noise and frustrating inductance issues’, Fishman release the Fluence Signature Series Greg Koch Gristle-Tone P90 pickup set.

What you need to know:

  • Fishman has collaborated with Greg Koch to create signature Fluence P-90 pickups.
  • These boast less noise than original P-90’s leaving pure, unadulterated tone.
  • Bridge and neck pickups have three voices each to select from.

“The sound I was going for was a neck pickup that did this buttery, glassy with girth tone, and the bridge pickup would do this honky girthsome thing”, says Koch about the new pickups.

Koch, a guitar players guitarist, who worked with Fishman on the Signature Gristle-Tone pickup set for Telecasters has again, left his mark on these pickups. The set includes two pickups, one bridge and one neck pickup, which can be powered by a 9V battery or Fishman’s own rechargeable battery packs.

The Gristle-Tone P90 set adds three switchable tones for both the bridge and neck pickups. The neck has an under-wound tone that is similar to a regular P90, a fat over-wound tone and a clear, open single coil tone while the bridge has a vintage P90 setting, muscular tone of an over-wound P90 and a bright, jangly single coil tone.

These adjustments are there to help you get a more focused sound through tone selection and noise reduction. Now pushing a P90 through distortion/compression effects pedals will not result in an overly buzzy or noisy sound character.

The Greg Koch Gristle-Tone Signature P90’s are available in both black and cream finishes.
