The rebirthed 1961 Sonic Blue Stratocaster, hand-painted in psychedelic Day-Glo colours and affectionately named “Rocky” features an alder body lovingly hand-painted with a replica of Harrison’s famous psychedelic brushstrokes.
Every last detail is captured, from the artwork on the pickguard and plastic parts to a replica decal on the back of headstock from Grimstone’s – the original music store where the guitar was purchased.
A trio of vintage-style ‘60s Stratocaster pickups sing with a “dynamic, crystalline tone that hearkens back to Fender’s golden age”.
The “Rocky” Strat features a vintage-style synchronised tremolo and tuners which provide the look and feel of a classic Fender instrument.
“It’s no secret that George Harrison’s impact and influence on popular music is unparalleled,” Fender said.
“Known for pushing musical boundaries and sonic experimentation, George’s inventive hooks and groundbreaking tones helped propel the Beatles into legendary status.”
Fender previously released a limited number of meticulous “Rocky” recreations via the Fender Custom Shop in 2020, but now this release gives fans from all backgrounds the opportunity to enjoy the sound and history behind this iconic guitar.
Additionally, being released today is the George Harrison “Rocky” Capsule Collection featuring unique instrument accessories inspired by Harrison’s artwork.
The collection features a woven instrument cable, two different guitar straps (polyester and leather), and a collectible pick tin.
These accessories feature a psychedelic multi-colour design and artwork inspired by the quirkier elements found on Harrison’s legendary instrument.
