Eventide has given its long-running H9 a substantial update, with the H9 Harmonizer Gen 2 folding the full H90 algorithm set into the smaller single-pedal format that made the original a mainstay.

A faster processor sits behind the update, running more than 74 effects pulled from Eventide’s larger H90 and H9 Max pedals, and over 1,000 ready-made sounds are loaded from the start. The effects cover delay, reverb, pitch shifting, granular textures, vocal effects and looping, and Eventide’s pitch shifting can harmonise chords rather than just single notes, so the added harmonies stay clean.
Controls are built around four modes:Select, Perform, Presets and Parameters. These are designed for finding sounds, lining them up for a gig and tweaking effects while you play. A bigger 2.5-inch screen, three knobs and a row of buttons handle the browsing, while the two footswitches and a pair of assignable macro controls let you adjust sounds by foot or hand without picking up your phone or laptop.
The H9 fits easily into most setups, with stereo, MIDI and pedal inputs plus separate connections for guitar and studio-level gear, so it works on a pedalboard, in an amp’s effects loop or in the studio. Effect tails ring out as you switch between sounds instead of cutting off, and you can edit everything on the pedal itself. Eventide’s free Control app for Mac and Windows handles updates, sound management and setup over a USB-C cable.
Older H9 sounds still work on it, there’s a built-in tuner, and the vocal effects pair with Eventide’s MixingLink preamp (this is sold separately) if you want to run a mic through it. Bluetooth control from the app on Mac and iPad is on the way.
