Ernie Ball Music Man and John Petrucci celebrate 20 year partnership with new signature models

Words by Will Brewster

Two JP and Majesty models have been commissioned to celebrate the anniversary.

For the last twenty years, Dream Theater’s shredder-in-chief John Petrucci has proudly endorsed Ernie Ball Music Man guitars, working alongside the So-Cal manufacturers on a massive range of signature models and being one of the brand’s most prominent endorsees.

There’s a lot of history and a lot of love between each party, and to make an occasion of its 20 year milestone, the pair have unveiled a new run of limited edition Majesty and JP models to celebrate.

Available in both six and seven-string variants, both 20th Anniversary models are kitted out with unique Honey Butter finishes to signify their limited status, with laser-etched anniversary tremolo backplates with Petrucci’s autograph also helping each model stand out.

The JP model features Honduran mahogany body with a flame maple top and forearm scoop, while a bolt-on mahogany neck and ebony fretboard with gold JP shield inlays help add a touch of class to the guitar.

For electronics, the guitar is loaded with Petrucci’s signature DiMarzio Crunch Lab humbucker in the bridge position and a Liquifire in the neck, while a +20dB boost preamp and onboard piezo bridge allow players to access a wide variety of tones.

Meanwhile, the Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci 20th Anniversary Majesty boasts a Honduran mahogany body with translucent gloss finish on the back, with a mahogany neck-thru design offering enhanced feel and comfort.

The ebony fretboard of the guitar features gold JP and shield inlays, with the Majesty also boasting Petrucci’s DiMarzio Dreamcatcher and Rainmaker pickups alongside an inbuilt piezo bridge system for unrivalled tonal variety.

Other features include a custom Ernie Ball tremolo with a matte black and gold hardware, as well as locking Schaller tuners, a mono/stereo output jack and more.

All John Petrucci 20th Anniversary limited edition models come with a deluxe hard-case and signed and numbered certificate of authenticity, with both guitars being available to order today.

Additionally, Ernie Ball Music Man have shared details of new finish options available to the 2021 Majesty range, with Hydrospace, Titan Blue and Lava Flow being incorporated alongside Enchanted Forest, Smoked Pearl and Ember Glow.
