Vocal synthesis company Dreamtonics has spent two years developing controllable choir ensembles that offer unprecedented control over every vocal nuance and expression.

Dreamtonics is launching three new choir voice collections for Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro, bringing the complexity and emotional depth of real vocal ensembles into the realm of synthesis. After two years of development, the company has created what they’re calling a game-changer for producers working with choral arrangements: complete control over everything from individual voices to full 16-member ensembles.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Rather than simply layering solo voices, Dreamtonics has taken a different approach. Their hybrid modelling system combines deep learning with signal processing to record full choirs, then dissects them into soloists and individual sections before rebuilding them as a controllable model. The result aims to capture the organic interaction between singers that makes real choirs sound alive, rather than stacked tracks.

Each collection is tailored for different musical contexts. Collection 1 focuses on soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices suited to gospel, worship, urban contemporary, rock, pop, R&B, soul, hip hop, house and electronic music. Collection 2 leans classical with soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and baritone configurations designed for opera, oratorio, mass, motet, cantata, film scores and symphonic work. Collection 3 targets traditional and contemporary folk, bluegrass, gospel, folk rock, singer-songwriter material and world music styles.

The level of control is impressive—producers can adjust the number of singers from a single soloist up to a 16-member ensemble, dial in pitch and timing dispersion to shift between tight pop precision and lush textural layers, and tweak consonant articulation, brightness and legato smoothness. When scaled down to single voices, each collection yields 16 distinct solo voices, four each of soprano, alto, tenor and bass variants, giving you heaps versatility from a single package.

Integration with existing Synthesizer V features means these choir collections slot straight into established production setups without requiring a complete workflow overhaul. For composers and producers who’ve struggled with the limitations of sampled choirs or the expense of booking session vocalists, this could be a practical solution that doesn’t sacrifice emotional impact.

The three collections represent a significant expansion of what’s possible with vocal synthesis, particularly for those working in genres where choral arrangements play a central role.
