The indie rock icons will hit Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane this November, bringing new material from their forthcoming album alongside three decades' worth of hits.

It’s been more than seven years since the indie rock act last played in Australia, and they’re arriving with plenty of new material in the luggage.

Death Cab for Cutie’s forthcoming record I Built You A Tower lands on 5 June, with single Riptides having dropped in March as the first preview. The November shows will pair fresh tracks from the album with the catalogue they’ve assembled across three decades and 10 studio albums.

The Australian dates follow a string of US shows launching in July. Death Cab signed with independent label ANTI- Records at the start of 2026 after more than 20 years on a major, making a deliberate move back toward independent operations ahead of the new record’s release.

Formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997, the group started life as a solo recording project from co-founder, frontman and songwriter Ben Gibbard before growing into a full band. Gibbard’s writing drew from a broad sweep of influences spanning post-punk, lo-fi and second-wave emo, shaping a sound that found its way to mainstream audiences without losing its indie foundations. The current lineup features Gibbard alongside bassist Nick Harmer, drummer Jason McGerr, guitarist Dave Depper and keyboardist Zac Rae, following the earlier departure of founding guitarist and producer Chris Walla.

The November run caps a packed 2026 for the group, with a new label home, a full US tour schedule and a new studio album all locked in. Mastercard holders can access presale tickets from 17 April at 1pm local time, with preferred access available from 21 April at 2pm via priceless.com/music. A Secret Sounds presale opens on 20 April at 1pm, with general public tickets going on sale on 21 April at 2pm local.
