D’Addario’s XPND Voltage Booster runs higher-voltage pedals off a 9V board

The compact booster steps a single 9V supply up to 12V, 18V or 24V, so higher-voltage pedals run without an extra power brick on the board.

The boutique overdrive you’ve got your eye on that sounds its best at 18V no longer needs its own power brick. Thanks to D’Addario’s new XPND Voltage Booster, you can turn a single 9V feed up to a selectable 12V, 18V or 24V.

It’s not just drives that ask for more – plenty of delays, reverbs and compressors have more headroom before they clip and a little more room to move dynamically with 18V or 24V behind them, and getting that onto a board has usually meant a second supply and the extra cabling to match. The Voltage Booster takes it from the 9V you’re already running instead.

At a glance

  • Steps a single 9V source up to a selectable 12V, 18V or 24V output
  • Works with the XPND Pedal Power Battery Kit and any other 9V tip-negative supply
  • Compact enough to tuck onto a crowded pedalboard
  • Removes the need for a second power brick, keeping the board lighter to carry
  • Covers the voltages most higher-voltage pedals ask for

Small enough to tuck onto a crowded board, the unit works with D’Addario’s own XPND Pedal Power Battery Kit as well as any other 9V tip-negative supply, so it drops into most existing rigs. A switch sets the output to 12V, 18V or 24V to match whatever pedal it’s feeding, and from there it stays put.

It joins the wider XPND range, which already runs to an expandable pedalboard and the rechargeable Pedal Power Battery Kit, all built around keeping a growing board light and easy to shift. For players adding higher-voltage pedals to a bigger rig, the booster covers that side of the power with one small box rather than a stack of separate supplies.

For anyone who’s put off buying an 18V pedal because dealing with the power is a pain, the D’Addario XPND Voltage Booster makes a practical choice.
