Canadian alt-country legends Cowboy Junkies are heading back to Australia this November, celebrating four decades of quiet revolution with a career-spanning show that draws from their entire catalogue.
Sometimes revolutions begin quietly. Back in 1988, Cowboy Junkies proved there was room for something quiet and beautiful. The Trinity Session stood out in the loud, flashy late ’80s by doing the opposite of what was trending – blending folk, country, blues, and rock in a way that felt fresh. Their cover of the Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane” became iconic, and the album went on to sell over a million copies.

Formed in Toronto in 1985, the core lineup has remained unchanged: Margo Timmins on vocals, Michael Timmins on guitar, Peter Timmins on drums, and Alan Anton on bass. Unlike most long-lasting groups, they’ve never had a breakup or taken a sanity-saving hiatus. Across 29 albums, they’ve maintained their course, crafting quiet, melodic songs delivered through Margo’s distinctive vocals.
“After 40-plus years of playing together, the band and its music are more important to us than ever,” Margo explains. “The music we make brings each of us a great sense of contentment, a knowledge of place, and a sense of doing what we were meant to do.”
Expect an evening featuring songs from The Trinity Session through to their recent album Such Ferocious Beauty, released in 2023 to universal critical acclaim.
