PJD Guitars, one of the UK’s leading independent guitar manufacturers, is officially launching in Australia this year through Sydney-based wholesale distributor F. Payton & Son — a fifth-generation, family-owned business that’s been supplying Australian retailers since 1881.

Founded in 2010 by luthier Leigh Dovey, PJD has built a strong reputation in the UK for instruments that feel considered rather than churned out. The brand’s aesthetic leans into distinctive offset body shapes, refined contours, and a modern British design sensibility that sits somewhere between boutique and contemporary.
The Australian launch centres on the Origin Series, PJD’s internationally crafted line designed in the UK and built in Indonesia. Developed directly from the brand’s higher-end UK-built models, the Origin Series carries the same design DNA and tonal character, just at a more accessible price point. Dovey is clear that these aren’t watered-down versions of his Custom Shop work. As he puts it, they’re simply PJD instruments made more accessible, built to the same specifications and standards the brand has always held itself to.
The independent guitar market has been increasingly crowded with familiar names, and a brand with PJD’s profile — boutique-inspired, design-forward, with a clear point of difference — offers something worth putting on the wall. Ben Payton from F. Payton & Son echoed this, noting that the Origin Series gives dealers access to a product that stands apart from mainstream offerings without being out of reach for players.
Australian players will get their first hands-on opportunity at the Sydney Guitar Show 2026, where the Origin Series will be on display and available to play. National availability through independent music retailers will follow, with dealer appointments and further product details to be announced in the coming months.
