Blackstar has released a limited edition white version of its popular FLY 3 mini guitar amp, designed to deliver the tonal balance and feel of a larger guitar amp even at low volumes.
Small amps and great tone don’t always go hand in hand. The Blackstar FLY 3 is an exception to that rule, and the new limited edition white finish gives players a fresh reason to take notice.
The FLY 3 runs on 3 watts through a 3-inch full-range driver, a deliberate design choice that eliminates the need for a subwoofer and the crossover that would come with it. This is important to note, as a crossover typically affects the mid-frequency range where much of a guitar’s character lives. By avoiding it entirely, the FLY 3 maintains a tonal response that Blackstar compares to nearfield monitors for music playback.

The cabinet itself received considerable attention during development, with the housing sealed and tuned for optimum tonal response. The material used has been mathematically modelled to replicate the Young’s Modulus of wood, retaining the bass response you’d normally associate with a wooden cabinet.
Two channels, Clean and Overdrive, cover the essentials, and Blackstar’s patented ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) handles EQ duties, letting players dial in their tone rather than dealing with a fixed frequency response. Onboard delay with adjustable time and level rounds out the controls, while inputs and outputs include a headphone and emulated out, line-in and an expansion output for the FLY 103 extension cabinet. Power comes from six AA batteries or DC, and the whole thing weighs just 0.9kg.
At 170 x 126 x 102mm, it fits easily on a desk, in a bag, in the car, or on a hotel room floor after a long day of travelling. The limited edition white finish adds a clean, understated look to what is already one of the more thoughtfully designed mini amps on the market.
