Audio-Technica has added a more affordable option to its StreamSet range, putting the company’s studio-monitor pedigree within reach of streamers who don’t want to spend big bucks on their first serious headset.
The ATH-M20xSTS builds on the ATH-M20x monitor headphones, a long-running fixture in home studios, and adds a microphone from Audio-Technica’s 20 Series. The 40mm drivers have a wide bandwidth and a flat frequency response, which for a gamer means footsteps, reloads and team chat land where they should instead of getting lost in mush.

If you stream or record, the AT20 cardioid condenser mic is the part you’ll notice. It picks up the voice in front of it and limits the the rest, so your keyboard, fan and the housemate in the next room stay off the broadcast. The boom bends to your face and holds position as you move, and a flick upward mutes you, so you can quickly clear your throat or grab something from your desk without making a sound.
Wherever you play, the ATH-M20xSTS is able to plug in. The detachable cable takes a 3.5mm four-pole mini-plug for consoles, with USB-A and USB-C adapters in the box for PC and phone, so one headset follows you from the couch to the desk. At around 230g with breathable mesh earpads, it won’t wear on your head through a marathon session either.
The ATH-M20xSTS sits below the ATH-M50xSTS in the StreamSet line, keeping the flip-to-mute mic and cross-platform connections at a lower entry price. For anyone stepping up from a basic gaming headset to something with studio roots, it’s an easy first buy.
