Curated by The Temper Trap and held at Melbourne's Bakehouse Studios, the inaugural Gudinski SongHubs is a four-day collaborative songwriting program celebrating Michael Gudinski's legacy as part of APRA AMCOS's 100th anniversary.

If there’s one name synonymous with championing Australian music, it’s Michael Gudinski – and now, his legacy has a songwriting camp to match.

APRA AMCOS has announced the inaugural Gudinski SongHubs, a first-of-its-kind edition of its flagship SongHubs program, honouring the late music industry titan as part of APRA’s 100th anniversary celebrations. Taking place from 24 to 27 February at Melbourne’s Bakehouse Studios, the four-day program has been curated by The Temper Trap and brings together some of Australia’s most exciting artists and producers, including Angeline Armstrong (Telenova), Ciarann Babbington (Baker’s Eddy), Hannah Joy (Middle Kids), Ross James, Selve, and Sunsick Daisy.

The connection between Gudinski and The Temper Trap runs deep. The band held dedicated writing sessions at Gudinski’s Mount Macedon home while developing their debut album Conditions – a record that produced one of Australian music’s most celebrated songs and earned them the prestigious Peer-Voted Song of the Year at the 2010 APRA Music Awards. That relationship embodied exactly the kind of support, trust, and creative freedom Gudinski was known for.

“MG was a real champion of young Australian bands,” says Toby Dundas of The Temper Trap. “With APRA AMCOS turning the success of the SongHubs camps towards a more band-focused format, it will be a great platform for the next generation of artists.”

Matt Gudinski, Chief Executive of the Mushroom Group, echoes that sentiment. “This initiative reflects his unwavering drive to support and collaborate with songwriters, providing a platform and culture for artists to thrive.”

Since launching in 2013, SongHubs has connected more than 2,000 Australian and New Zealand songwriters across 30-plus locations worldwide, producing over 6,000 tracks in multiple languages. Alumni include Briggs, Courtney Barnett, G Flip, Troye Sivan, and Sarah Aarons – a track record that speaks for itself.

APRA AMCOS CEO Dean Ormston describes the timing as fitting: “As we celebrate APRA’s 100th year of supporting songwriters, it seemed a fitting tribute to honour one of Australian music’s most influential people.”
