Apple’s Macbook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro have been given updates, moving on from M1 processors, the new MacBook Air and Mac Studio are available with M2 processors, the latter being available with an M2 Max or M2 Ultra. The new M2 Ultra features a 24-core CPU, up to 76-core GPU, and supporting up to 192GB of RAM, while the base model M2 Max still boasts capabilities of 96GB of unified memory.

The flagship Mac Pro has also seen an upgrade, finally featuring a silicone-based processer in the M1 Ultra CPU, moving on from Intel processors. The Mac Pro is still available in either a desktop or rack mounted chassis, with eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI ports, three USB-A ports, 10Gb Ethernet ports, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, with the ability to drive more screens than your productivity can handle!

At the lower end of the scale, the MacBook Air has received an upgrade, with an M2 processor and a six-speaker sound system designed for seamless integration into the growing world of spatial audio. Small upgrades like power supply and battery life see MacBook returning to MagSafe connectors for chargers, and a single charge offering 18 hours of battery life for the new MacBook Air.

Apple’s WWDC often sees a slew of upgrades to processing, portability and power, and this week’s announcement was no different. Creatives using Mac for their main workhorse machines can rest a little easier knowing that their computers are over-engineered for any processing they might be doing, preventing a perfect vocal being ruined by a colourful spinning wheel, or edits music videos and band promos being lost to the wind.
