Show & Tell with: Matt Klavins of Ne Obliviscaris

What piece of equipment do you have to show us today?

My Ormsby SX7 GTR.

How did you come across this particular item?

I was extremely curious about multiscale guitars but had never had the chance to ‘really’ try one out. I contacted our friends at Ormsby Guitars and after a brief discussion about my guitar likes/dislikes they were kind enough to send out the SX7 GTR for me to try out!

What is it that you like about it so much?

Aside from looks, the first thing I noticed when I picked it up was the weight of it. It was so much lighter than my other guitars. On some of those long tours I get a sore back/shoulder on my left side from throwing me and my guitar around on stage night after night. So this was a feature that I hadn’t heard much about but was pretty happy with.

I have carpal tunnel issues when I play certain positions for too long but I’ve found that with the SX’s neck profile and the multiscale fret board, my wrist position is different and seems to have eliminated my problem. This is probably my favourite thing about it.

How do you use it and how has it shaped the way you write music?

I began working on new material for album #4 as soon as I started playing on it a month ago.

Tell us a little about what you have coming up?

We are just about to embark on our AUS/NZ tour in support of our latest album Urn and then we head over to Europe for a six week headline tour.

Urn is out now through Season of Mist/Welkin Records. The Urn Australia/New Zealand tour kicks in Adelaide Friday February 9.
