RockBoard launches Second Tiers pedalboard expansion

Words by Mixdown

Two sizes, super fast setup, and more usable space for the modern pedalboard.

RockBoard has released the Second Tiers, a two-size pedalboard expansion built to answer years of customer requests for a tiered mounting solution.

According to RockBoard, players had spent years asking for a tiered solution through comments, posts, and emails, with some fans going as far as building their own versions from existing RockBoard components and sending in photos of their creations. The brand says it became the most requested product idea in RockBoard’s history.

The renewed interest, RockBoard notes, reflects a shift in how modern pedalboards are built, with more players now incorporating pedal-format amps, modelers, NAM profilers, IR pedals, loop switchers, and MIDI controllers into their rigs. The Second Tiers are designed to house pedals that don’t need frequent hands-on access, while still allowing those connected to a controller or switcher to be used remotely.

Each Second Tier has a fully opening top that locks in place at an adjustable angle for access to the pedals housed underneath. The units mount directly through RockBoard’s existing hole structure, are secured with grub screws, and attach via RockBoard-branded screws — a setup RockBoard says takes only seconds, even on existing boards, while preserving cable-routing options.

RockBoard says the concept had been discussed internally at Warwick HQ for some time, but it was the volume of homemade solutions from users that pushed the team to develop an official version compatible with the wider RockBoard ecosystem. The design reportedly moved quickly from initial concept to near-final prototype, with the nine-month development process focused on clearance, access, stability, and compatibility with existing RockBoard gear such as the QuickMount system, PSUs, MOD Patchbays, and LED Strips/Lamps.

The Second Tiers come in two sizes, 320 mm (S) and 475 mm (L), both measuring 150 mm front to back. RockBoard says the dimensions were chosen to suit its existing board range, leaving room for an expression pedal on some setups, spanning the full width on others, and allowing two tiers to be used together on larger compatible boards. Compatibility runs from the TRES series upward through the RockBoard lineup.

Built from powder-coated aluminium, the Second Tiers are designed to visually and structurally match existing RockBoard pedalboards.
