klang.io Transcription Studio has arrived on iOS and Android, putting music transcription on your phone. Available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, the mobile version includes the same tools as the desktop version, that turn a recording into notation, from an audio file or a take on your phone’s microphone.

A riff recorded at soundcheck or a melody caught on the train can be fed straight in to the app to analyse the audio and write out the notation. It reads multi-instrument recordings from any source, detecting the separate instruments automatically and setting them out in the format you’re after.
It works fairly simply – drop in an audio file, a social media link or a microphone recording, then choose a transcription mode suited to the material – solo and songwriting, small groups, guitar-focused bands, larger classical ensembles, instrument-specific arrangements, or a lead sheet built around melody and chord symbols. A new Record Mode adds an integrated metronome so a take stays in tempo and the rhythm comes back cleaner. Finished transcriptions can be read as notation or as a piano roll, and fine-tuned in the Editor before export.
More than 25 instruments are supported, among them piano, guitar, bass, vocals, drums, strings, woodwind, brass and ukulele, with more to come. Because projects live on your account rather than a single device, an idea recorded on the phone will be also be on desktop so you can refine it, as well as on a tablet to read at rehearsal. All project can be exported across to a DAW or notation program the same way.
