“We wanted to create a new microphone that retained the high quality of our other products while making it more affordable for bedroom music makers and project studios,” said Soyuz co-founder David Brown.
The 1973 is fully handmade and inspired by the golden age of FET mics, featuring a version of the now legendary Bomblet capsule, whose lineage began in the AKG factory in 1953, was refined by LOMO in the early ’70s, and was then further redesigned by Soyuz’s own white-coated engineers.
The body features a new design, and like all Soyuz products, its dimensions are based on the Golden Ratio.
It’s compact in size, which allows engineers and music makers to fit the microphone into tight quarters, making it the perfect option for everything from drums and amps to vocals and piano.
“When you buy a 1973, you’re getting Soyuz in every sense of the word,” said Brown.
“Expect lows that are present but not boomy, a forward midrange that’s never boxy and highs that are airy and open, but never harsh.”
Until now, Soyuz’s mics have been out of reach for many, but the goal when designing and building the 1973 was a “people’s mic” that could be sold for an affordable price point.
