Ernie Ball Modern Classic Cutlass
The Cutlass bass was designed as a passive 4-string bass. Featuring rich, vintage tones surrounded by streamlined, modern appointments giving the player plenty of comfort. Other great features include an old school split-coil humbucking design for that big round bottom-end tone, a comfortable “C” shaped neck carve and a lightweight contoured alder body that fits like a glove.
The top-loading bridge is made from hardened steel and complemented by a newly designed oversized headstock with the familiar 3+1 tuner arrangement. All in all, the Cutlass is a sleek, modern bass with vintage features that stays true to its Music Man heritage.
Fender Flea Jazz Bass
Bringing together the sounds of Stadium Arcadium and their latest effort The Getaway, Fender and Chilli Peppers’ bassist Flea have collaborated to create the Fender Flea Jazz Bass.
Flea commented on the bass saying this is “the greatest bass [he’s] ever played.” Having a special neck plate engraved with Flea’s own conceptual artwork and four-ply tortoiseshell pickgaurd offsets, you can’t forget that this treasure shows off a shell pink gloss, that brings you that much closer to Flea’s own creation.
The new Fender Flea Jazz bass is also fitted with two American pure vintage ’64 Jazz bass single coils, which ring-in the original-era Fender tone that everyone loves. The bass has a simplistic design, allowing two stacked concentric controls, which help dial in your tone and blend at your will.
Fodera Imperial 5 Elite ‘Kestrel’ Bass
Fodera Guitars released the second instalment of their Masterbuilt line, the Imperial 5 Elite – otherwise known as the ‘Kestrel’. The latest addition to their line-up has a dynamic look to it, created with one-piece Brazilian rosewood top with the mother of pearl inlay behind the strings.
Featuring some very fine materials including a walnut body, flamed alder tone-block and a 5 piece oak wenge and maple neck finished with an ebony fingerboard, it has one of the most distinguishable looks in the trade. These materials create articulated lows, presence and clarity on the instruments upper register. The walnut body adds acoustic quality to the ‘Krestrel’. It also features a single Fodera/ Seymour Duncan Dual Coil pickup with a preamp that allows for flexibility over the tone.
Gretsch G6136B-TP-AWT Tom Petersson Signature 4-String Bass
Gretsch released the more simplistic 4 string model along with a 12-string counterpart earlier this year. The G6136B-TP-AWT features a laminated maple body, 12”-radius ebony fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and mother-of pearl inlays, short scale length (30.3”), Adjusto-Matic bridge and Gretsch “Cadillac” tailpiece, gloss-finish maple neck with “U” profile, gold hardware and pickguard. As per Petersson’s direction, the guitar’s usual pickup has been replaced with a middle pickup, (Seymour Duncan Super’Tron) pairing it with the new Rumble’Tron neck pickup giving the instrument and extra bold statement.
Danelectro ‘59DC Long Scale Bass
Earlier this year, Danelectro announced four new models and this was the gem in the lineup. Reviving the 1990s classic, Danelectro’s ‘59DC Long Scale Bass features all of the brand’s classic tones on-board paired with a 34” scale neck and it also features high-output Lipstick pickups. Like all of Danelectro’s releases, the ’59DC is quite the conversation starter with its unique body shape and stunning finish.
