You Am I announce new album The Lives Of Others

Words by Chloe Karis

Marking the eleventh full-length effort from the local legends.

Australian alternative rock icons You Am I have announced their forthcoming album The Lives Of Others, set to be released on Friday May 14 via Caroline Australia.

The news follows the band’s release of the album’s lead single ‘The Waterboy’ last fortnight, with the band describing the song as ‘the most You Am I single any You Am I could make.’

With the announcement of the album’s release date yesterday, You Am I dropped the music video for ‘The Waterboy’. Directed and edited by guitarist Davey Lane, the video consists of live footage of the band warming up backstage and performing on stage.

You Am I reflected on the video in a statement shared to their socials yesterday, saying that ‘with Davey’s toons being too great not to include, we put aside some that may come out later and collated these 12 songs, about lives of quiet desperation set to a sound and performances we think are our best yet. Whether in the same room or not we needed just trust and instinct.’

The Lives Of Others marks the first release from You Am I, with their last studio album Porridge & Hotsauce being released in late 2015.

You Am I are performing at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Thursday April 15, and have also been announced as part of the lineup for Melbourne’s April Sun in St Kilda on Thursday April 22. Tickets are available on Moshtix now.

The Lives Of Others arrives via Caroline Australia on Friday May 14.
