SSL's latest all-analogue in-line console brings complete 4000 E channel strips to modern studios with authentic dynamics processing on every channel.
Solid State Logic has launched ORIGIN EVO at NAMM 2026, the next evolution of its 4000 Series lineage, with the complete classic ‘4000 E’ channel strip experience. For the first time in the ORIGIN range, every channel features an authentic, full recreation of the renowned E Series dynamics processing—the missing piece that defined the legendary ’80s SSL sound.
Think punchy, aggressive compression and ultra-fast gating built with original-spec circuitry. It’s the sound that’s been recorded for decades, now available on every single channel.

What you’ll get:
Console configurations
- 16- or 32-channel in-line formats
- Large and small fader layouts
- Up to 88 inputs at mixdown
- 2 stereo cue, 4 mono buses, 16 track buses
PureDrive mic preamps
These discrete transistor designs offer serious sonic flexibility with 70dB of pristine, low-noise gain. Running clean, you’ll get ultra-clean, high-resolution transparency that stays out of your way. For more attitude, engage the DRIVE function for warm, harmonically rich saturation.
E Series 242 ‘Black Knob’ EQ
Originally developed with Sir George Martin for the SL 4000 E, this four-band parametric design has been the professional’s choice for shaping exceptional mixes for over four decades. There’s a reason engineers still talk about this EQ in reverent tones. Each band features dedicated Q controls on the HMF and LMF, plus bell/shelf switching on the HF/LF bands for surgical precision or broad strokes.
E Series dynamics processing
This is where ORIGIN EVO earns its stripes. Built with original-spec circuitry and components, the dynamics section includes:
- True RMS sidechain detector
- Authentic Class-A VCA chip from the original console
- Three distinctive compression characteristics
- Soft-knee bypass option
- Fast attack engagement
- Logarithmic or linear release selection
- Channel linking via sidechain
- Ultra-fast expander/gate that doesn’t mess around
SSL filters
An 18dB/octave high-pass filter combines with a 12dB/octave low-pass filter for enhanced tonal shaping. Both can be switched to the dynamics sidechain for precise frequency control, ideal for cleaning up gated drums or dialling in some surgical de-essing without compromising your overall tone.
Enhanced Bus Compressor
Few pieces of studio gear have earned the legendary status of SSL’s Bus Compressor. It’s been the secret behind countless hit records, and ORIGIN EVO’s version gets updated with new compression ratios, a built-in sidechain filter, and an insert return for external processing—delivering classic glue and punch with more flexibility.
Modular centre section
The 19-inch rack-based centre section adapts to different control priorities with space for integrating a UF8 or UF1 DAW controller, keeping everything within arm’s reach. Features include Bus Trim Masters, a central routing matrix with 16 track buses, and Auto Sleep functionality that detects inactivity and reduces power consumption—making ORIGIN EVO significantly more efficient than legacy SSL consoles.
Upgrade path
Existing ORIGIN owners won’t be left behind. SSL offers 8-channel retrofit kits, making the upgrade manageable and cost-effective in stages rather than requiring a complete console replacement.
