Roland has just announced the V-Drums 3 and 5 Series, bringing the premium sounds and creative flexibility of their flagship V71 module down to more compact, accessible kits.
For over 50 years, Roland has been pushing the boundaries of electronic musical instruments, and Roland drums represent some of their most significant innovations in percussion. Now, Roland has announced the V-Drums 3 and 5 Series, bringing the premium sounds and creative flexibility of their flagship V71 module down to more compact, accessible kits. For the first time, all three series share the same internal sound engine, allowing for cross-compatibility across the entire ecosystem.

The V31 and V51 modules use the same sonic DNA as the acclaimed V71, which debuted last year with a completely redesigned sound library developed alongside Drum Workshop. There are hand-picked samples from world-class drum kits, multi-layer playback, behaviour modelling, and over 16,000 dynamic response variations. With these kinds of features, this doesn’t sound like a drum machine – it sounds like a proper kit.
The hardware has had a rethink, too. New pad designs, updated stands, and integrated wireless adapters across all modules mean you can audition sounds, download content, and update firmware directly from your phone via Roland Cloud Connect.
V-Drums 5 Series
The V-Drums 5 Series delivers pro-level performance for serious players. Built around the V51 module, you get four options to choose from: the VAD516 Acoustic Design kit with wooden shells and Roland’s digital snare, ride, and hi-hat pads, the mid-level TD516, the entry-level TD513, or just the V51 module on its own. Everything here features robust I/O and full digital pad support, whether you’re taking it to the stage or the studio.
V-Drums 3 Series
The V-Drums 3 Series keeps things tight without cutting corners. Centred on the V31 module, there’s the VAD316 with acoustic design vibes in a compact design, the TD316 packed with pro-inspired features, and the TD313 for those after premium sound in a space-saving setup. You can also grab the V31 module standalone if that’s what you need. All of them sound just as good as their bigger brothers.
Both series bundle six months of Roland Cloud Ultimate membership, unlocking V-Drums Instrument Expansions, Kit Packs, and 100 Melodics interactive lessons.
Roland has made it easier than ever to access genuine V-Drums technology without the flagship price tag. With identical sound engines across all three series, you’re not compromising on audio, but getting smarter about space and budget.
