RØDE has launched the DS3, a desktop stand for holding a microphone, camera, light or phone right where you want it on your desk. The follow-up to the DS2, it takes up to 1.5kg, well up on the 900g its predecessor managed, so it copes with heavier gear without drooping or wobbling.

It’s built as much for podcasters, streamers and gamers as for musicians and engineers – anyone running a mic and a bit of kit on a desk. Rather than clamping to the edge of the desk like most mic arms, the DS3 stands on a weighted base, so it goes anywhere on a flat surface and leaves the desk edge free. That base has been redesigned to stay steady under heavier loads while keeping a small footprint.
The joint at the top is a ball head, which moves smoothly and near-silently, so you can reposition the mic mid-stream or mid-take without any noise creeping into the recording, and a single lock holds the angle once it’s set. Each finish has its own pad to soak up vibration, with the black version using soft-touch silicone and the white using natural cork, and cable clips keep XLR and USB leads tucked out of the way.
A universal mounting system and included 3/8″, 1/4″ and 5/8″ thread adaptors mean it takes most mics, cameras and lights straight away, and it pairs with RØDE accessories like the PodMic USB, Universal Ball Mount, Magnetic Mount and VESA Mount for phones and screens.
The DS3 is available now in black at an RRP of $180, shipping worldwide, with a white finish to follow.
