The limited edition guitar features a three-pickup configuration with 12 tonal combinations, with just 280 pieces worldwide.

It’s PRS Guitars’ 40th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than a limited edition guitar? The Special Semi-Hollow Limited Edition has been unveiled, capping off a year of celebratory releases with one of their most versatile instruments yet.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Limited to 280 pieces globally, this special edition centres around an unusual pickup configuration that opens up major tonal flexibility. The PRS McCarty III humbuckers handle the treble and bass positions, while a proprietary PRS Narrowfield sits in the middle. Paired with a 5-way blade switch and two mini-toggles, this setup delivers 12 different pickup combinations—covering everything from classic humbucker grit to single-coil sparkle.

The semi-hollow body adds its own character, bringing airiness and depth that complement the pickup switching. You can roll back the tone control for added growl or turn it up for shimmer. PRS has balanced the volume levels between humbucking and single-coil settings, so you’re not scrambling for the volume knob when switching between modes.

Visually, the guitar features an artist-grade figured maple top paired with black limba for the back and neck. The fretboard and headstock veneer use Honduran rosewood, while the pre-factory eagle adorns the headstock–a fitting nod to PRS’s early days. Each guitar ships with a 40th Anniversary certificate hand-signed by Paul Reed Smith himself.

“This has been an incredible year of releasing special limited-edition guitars to celebrate our anniversary,” said Judy Schaefer, PRS Guitars Director of Marketing. “The 40th Anniversary Special Semi-Hollow Limited Edition is the culmination of this year’s anniversary lineup. With a dozen pickup combinations, the ability to summon both humbucker and single-coil sounds, and beautiful woods, this instrument will inspire you to play.”

PRS has been releasing new products monthly throughout 2025 as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, with more gear and limited editions still to come.
