Tame Impala's Kevin Parker created Orchid, a chord-generating instrument that's helping shape modern music, and Australians will finally get their hands on it this weekend.

Telepathic Instruments is opening its first Australian ‘Flower Shop’ pop-up in Sydney from Friday 5 December to Sunday 7 December, offering local musicians and producers a rare opportunity to explore Orchid—the consistently sold-out songwriting instrument conceived by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker over a decade ago.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Running across three days at 75 Mary Street in St Peters (above Sample Coffee Shop Pro), the event creates an open environment where visitors can experiment with Orchid at their own pace. Musicians of all skill levels can test the chord-generating interface, dive into its three synth engines, and discover how quickly musical ideas can take shape when the instrument handles complex harmonics.

Since its international launch, demand for Orchid has consistently exceeded supply. This pop-up marks the first chance Australian artists have had to use the instrument in person. Parker will also demonstrate his approach to building ideas with Orchid, demystifying the songwriting process for those who find it daunting.

Orchid started as Parker’s personal creative tool but has evolved into something much broader. The instrument features an intuitive interface that generates chords, eliminating the mathematical complexity that often slows down the creative process. Three distinct synth engines give the Orchid sonic variety, while an extensive library of patterns, patches and effects gives artists heaps of room to explore.

The impact is already clear across contemporary music. Kid Cudi used Orchid on “Submarine” from his 2025 album Free, while Don Toliver incorporated it into “Call Back”. Artists including Janelle Monáe, Diplo, Fred again, Joy Anonymous, Madison Beer, Logic, Mark Hoppus, Ryan Tedder, Murda Beatz, Gracie Abrams and Sara Landry have all integrated Orchid into their creative processes.

Coinciding with the Sydney event, Telepathic Instruments has launched In the Back Seat, a new video series featuring intimate performances. The debut episode captures Parker performing a tender rendition of Cat Stevens’ “Wild World” on Orchid from inside a vintage limousine rolling through Los Angeles, showcasing the instrument’s expressive capabilities in a stripped-back setting.

Founded by Parker alongside Ignacio Germade, Charl Laubscher, Chris Adams, Sophie Parker and Tom Cosm, Telepathic Instruments builds music technology designed to bridge the gap between musical ideas and their realisation.
