Designed by Dylan Tallchief, who documented his exploits in a YouTube video, pinpointed a number of similarities between the cell-based spreadsheet formula and the typical grid-based step sequencer used in electronic music. Steps can be input by dropping an X in each corresponding cell, while additional rows can be used to tweak the velocity and pitch of each hit.
Although the spreadsheet itself doesn’t actually make sound, Tallcheif claims that you can send the spreadsheet as MIDI data to another source, with a simple example being Microsoft’s GS Wavetable Synth on Windows. If you’re ever working a lazy day in the office, this could be worth checking out!
