The new Fly Tape II bottles up the magic of cassette manipulation for modern producers.
AIR Music Tech’s latest cassette-inspired effects plugin was developed in collaboration with MSXII Sound Design, bringing that authentic lo-fi warmth and analog grit directly to producers. What started as a beloved iOS app has now made the leap to MPC standalone, MPC Desktop and DAW workflows.

The Fly Tape II captures all the beautiful imperfections that make cassette sound worth chasing – the warble, saturation and the happy accidents when the tape deck acted up. It fills a specific hole in most producers’ arsenals, bringing tactile cassette manipulation into modern setups.
Under the hood, Fly Tape II packs eight distinct effects that each tell their own story. The Speed control offers four settings for those classic half-speed dream sequences and quarter-speed cinematic moments. Three saturation modes—Boost, Amp and Drive—range from gentle tube warmth to full-blown analog overdrive. The Warble section brings seven flavours of wow and flutter that breathe life into static sounds with unpredictable pitch wobbles.
Lo-Fi mode serves up eight variations of intentional degradation, from subtle cassette hiss to aggressive bit-crushing that transports your tracks straight back to a bedroom studio circa 1987. Brake effects nail that satisfying tape-stop sound with four different wind-down speeds, while Stutter chops your audio into rhythmic pieces with surgical precision. Dedicated Mute and Reverse buttons handle the performance side, allowing you to flip and chop on the fly like you’re working a real tape deck.
Additional features include a Hold option that changes momentary behaviour to toggle for effect trigger buttons, plus noise level fader, wet/dry mix controls and a retro-style interface.
Industry producers are already using the plugin, including Grammy Award-winning producer Snipe Young (Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar), who calls it “a powerhouse in a small package” that allows him to “stay in the creative flow while adding sauce.”
Fly Tape II is available here and supports VST, VST3 and AU formats on desktop and works with MPC standalone devices running v2.15.1, v3.5, or later versions. For more information, head here.
