The music video, which is the first official Bon Iver visual since 2012, marks the band’s first collaboration with LA-based, Barcelona-born director AG Rojas, who has also directed videos for the likes of Kamasi Washington, Gil Scott-Heron, Earl Sweatshirt and Florence + The Machine.
In a statement accompanying the release of ‘Naeem’, Rojas elaborated on his conceptulisation behind the striking visual, saying that “’Naeem’ is concerned with the potential for intergenerational healing, and how we choose to engage with that potential. All my admiration and love to Cynthia Rodriguez and her child Azul who brought this idea to life, and to Bon Iver for amplifying it.”
Check out the video below – there’s a whole lot of Biblical imagery to digest, and it makes for one hell of a video. I guess you wouldn’t expect anything less from Justin Vernon and co., would you?
