Developed by Gil Weinberg, director of the institution, the drumming device consists of two parts. The main drumstick is controlled through musical signals that are sent using electromyography; the other is a smaller robotic drumstick that taps out beats all by itself by following the movement of the player and improvising around the sound. The player can either use the second stick or move it away for more control.
Proud owner of the unique creation is Jason Barnes who lost his right arm after being severely electrocuted. Through using the device, Barnes has been gifted the ability to play the drums once again but to also improve his range and total control. For instance, the drumsticks can be programmed to play various rhythms at the same time and they can clearly move faster than humanly possible.
