The Who’s Pete Townshend announces first novel

The Age Of Anxiety is set to follow two families in London over two different generations, tracing the trials and tribulations of their lives and the music that impacts them along the way. Publishers Hachette Books have described the novel as a mystic opera that can be read as “an extended meditation on manic genius and the dark art of creativity,” as well as stating that “The novel captures the craziness of the music business and displays Pete Townshend’s sly sense of humour and sharp ear for dialogue.”

Townshend himself also commented on the creation of The Age Of Anxiety, stating that he has also been working on creating music to accompany the novel – “Ten years ago I decided to creata a magnum opus that would combine opera, art installation and novel. Suddenly here I am with a completed novel ready to publish. I am an avid reader and have really enjoyed writing it. I am also happy to say that the majority of the music is composed, ready to be polished up for release and performance. It’s tremendously exciting.”
