Their creativity is spurred by the use of AirSticks, a new gestural drumkit invented by band member Alon Ilsar. The band’s collaborative process, however, has been established and crafted through long-time performances and improvised musical events between Ilsar and fellow members Daniel Pliner (synths) and Josh Ahearn (electric bass).
Written, performed and recorded over a week in the Blue Mountains near Sydney, the new album captures the visceral and cathartic nature of live performance, tapping into everything from intricate IDM to 8-bit video game soundtracks.
A band intent on creating otherworldly musical experiences, The Sticks incorporate both sonic and visual elements into their music, as seen on the video for album track ‘Sidestep’. With upcoming shows in both Melbourne and Sydney, the full force of their entrancing live show is right on our doorstep.
