Ten tracks deep, Notes of Blue marks the group’s first proper studio release since their 2013 album Honky Tonk. As the title suggests, the record is inspired by the blues but not the standard kind. It employs the unique and specific guitar tunings of Mississippi Fred McDowell, Skip James and Nick Drake.
Notes of Blue will see Jay Farrar, the compelling vocalist and the creative force behind Son Volt, tackle the themes of redemption and common struggle, elements that have always been a part of the blues spirit.
Formed in 1994 by Farrar, who was the founding member of alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt has become one of the most influential bands of the Americana movement.
