Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien details solo album Earth

Earth is set for release on Friday April 17 under Capitol Records, with O’Brien assuming the moniker EOB for his solo endeavours. The record features contributions from Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood (you can hear him playing on ‘Brasil’), as well as Portishead’s Adrian Utley, Laura Marling, Wilco’s Glen Kotche and more. Check out a mini documentary exploring the creative process behind Earth below.

O’Brien has accompanied today’s announcement with another new single, ‘Shangri-La’. It’s almost got a bit of an LCD Soundsystem vibe to it, with O’Brien testing out his upper vocal register and embelishing the track with plenty of pitch-shifted harmonics and angular guitars. Judging from the vibe of the first two singles, Earth might just be one of the most interesting Radiohead solo projects to date – he’s merging some awesome sounds across these tracks. Obviously, it’s hard to compare to Thom Yorke, but you can’t deny that this is some super cool shit. Listen to ‘Shangri-La’ below.

This now makes Colin Greenwood the sole Radiohead member to have not released a solo project of sorts.
