Led Zeppelin announces expanded ‘The Song Remains the Same’ reissue

The album was remastered with supervision from Jimmy Page and is the final record from the band’s impressive catalogue to be rereleased since the reissues began in 2014. The Song Remains the Same, originally recorded over three nights at Madison Square Garden in 1973, will see its reissue arrive on Blu-Ray, CD, and vinyl in addition to a release on digital platforms.

A Super Deluxe edition is sure to draw a lot of attention, including two CDs, four vinyl albums, two DVDs, a high-definition download card, a 28-page book documenting Led Zeppelin’s career, and a 20-page replica of the program from their Japan tour in 1977.

Notable tracks to keep an eye out for are the four previously unreleased outtakes set to feature on all audio formats and DVDs: ‘Celebration Day’, ‘Over the Hills and Far Away’, ‘Misty Mountain Hop’, and ‘The Ocean’.

Perhaps the most significant part of this release is Jimmy Page’s move to change the track sequence and allow the 29-minute rendition of ‘Dazed and Confused’ to take over one whole side of a vinyl record for the first time.

The Song Remains the Same reissues are due to be released on Friday September 7 – the 50th anniversary of John Bonham, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones’ first show together. Read our Gear Rundown for John Paul Jones here.
