This Searing Light, the Sun and Everything Else: Joy Division – The Oral History compiles over three decades of interviews from the Manchester post-punk icons, telling the story of the band in the formative stages to the suicide of frontman Ian Curtis to New Order and beyond. The book, written by former NME journalist Jon Savage, features interviews from the likes of band members Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris to Unknown Pleasures artist Peter Saville and Curtis’s widow Deborah Curtis.
Given Savage’s previous work in the 2008 documentary film Joy Division and music history books such as 1966: The Year the Decade Exploded and England’s Dreaming: Anarchy, Sex Pistols, Punk Rock & Beyond, we get the feeling that this one might be essential reading for all you post-punk enthusiasts out there. You can pre-order the book via Amazon today, or keep your eyes peeled for when it hits stores down under later in March.
