Menza, the former drummer of Megadeth, collapsed on-stage during a set with his latest project, OHM, in Studio City, California. The thrash icon was rushed to hospital, before being pronounced dead earlier this morning. The drummer’s management confirmed the death in a statement: “Nick collapsed during the third song into a set with his band OHM. Earliest reports indicate he suffered a massive heart attack and was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.”
Menza was apart of the “classic” Megadeth line-up, and featured on the 1990 classic Rust In Peace as well as 1992’s Countdown To Extinction. The drummer was well known for his playing style, as well as his on-stage presence; in particular the way he attacked his double kick drum.
RIP Nick Menza, you will be missed.
