Bright Eyes announce new album, share lead single ‘Persona Non Grata’

‘Persona Non Grata’ marks the first time we’ve heard from Conor Orbest’s acclaimed indie-folk group since The People’s Key, which was released way back in 2011. The track marks a return to the gloomy Bright Eyes sound of yore, lumbering like a somber dirge before peaking with an impassioned final verse from Orbest and being buried in a frenzy of bagpipes and feedback. At any rate, ‘Persona Non Grata’ certainly feels timely, which I guess is all we really need from Bright Eyes right now – listen to the single below.

Accompanying the single, the band also shared a note to their fans, revealing that they’d be releasing an album later in the year and that they’ve been plotting tour dates. Read it in its entirety below: at this rate, at least we’ve got plenty of sad new tracks to pour out our feelings to while under lock and key.

Hello Friends,

Strange days indeed. Just wanted to send our love and solidarity to everyone out there feeling alone, frightened and isolated. You are not alone. We are all in this together. We, like so many others, had many plans for 2020. We will be releasing a new album this year no matter what. We also have lots of touring plans which we are now reassessing.

We will keep you informed as things progress. We very much want to get on the road and hope to see you all in person sooner rather than later. Until the, here is a song called ‘Persona Non Grata’. We hope you like it. It was hard to decide which song to share first because they are all quite different, but this one seemed as good of a place for us. We hope this finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe. Thinking of you fondly.

Your pals,
Conor, Mike and Nate.
