The 19-year-old Melbourne producer Alex Clayton already has a two-track release, Nobody/Love, and has made his way through the Melbourne club scene. At the centre of his new track ‘Alsp’ is a vocal sample that stretches and compresses the track’s timing, an experimental turn that works alongside a beautiful melody and simple chords.
With Simon Lam (I’lls, Klo) on mastering duties, the Underpass EP sees Clayton melding vibrant rhythm sections unique to early garage and footwork with a classically-trained eye, creating versatile arrangements that are forward-thinking, yet shine a light on harmony.
He’s set to play EMC Festival and Paradise Festival later this year, along with a run of launch shows for the EP.
