Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard announces debut solo album

Howard has also offered an early glimpse of the forthcoming record with the single ‘History Repeats,’ which you can listen to below. Propelled by a driving breakbeat and inflected with funky clavinets and breezy guitar licks, the lofty single acts as a nourishing antidote to those who might’ve been craving a bit of Alabama Shakes since the release of Sound and Color way back in 2015.

Jaime is named after Howard’s own sister, who sadly passed away from cancer as a teenager. In a statement released alongside today’s announcement, Howard elaborated on her choice to name the record after her sister, saying that “The title is in memoriam, and she definitely did shape me as a human being. But, the record is not about her. It’s about me. I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own.”

Jaime is set for release via Columbia Records on Friday September 20.
