The closure is one of the centrepieces of next year’s Perth Festival, with the ten kilometre stretch of highway set to be transformed into a huge entertainment precinct complete with bands performing AC/DC tributes from the back of semi-trailers. The mini-festival will see the likes of Amyl & The Sniffers, Shonen Knife, Steve ‘n’ Seagulls and the Pigram Brothers take to the stage for the event, which will also host ‘the world’s largest karaoke rendition’ of ‘Highway to Hell’ at Melville’s Tompkins Park.
In a statement to The West Australian, festival director Iain Grandage emphasised the huge, ambitious scale of the event, saying that “The scale of it matches the hubris of the band and the size of an AC/DC stadium show… When the celebrations are that big, like they are inside an AC/DC concert, then it feels like that’s the way to honour a legacy that big.”
