Moog introduces two brand new keyboard amps

Words by Mixdown

The Model 112 and Model 210 pair analogue bi-amped power with a built-in four-channel stereo mixer, mic preamp and Bluetooth streaming.

Moog has built a pair of amps for the kind of instruments it’s best known for, and the Model 112 and Model 210 are designed to reproduce synths, keyboards, drum machines and modellers at full range, without the coloured response of a guitar amp or the hassle of running everything through a PA.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Most keyboard players and electronic musicians make do with a powered PA speaker or a borrowed bass amp on stage. Neither was built to handle the wide frequency range and sharp transients of a synth or drum machine, and Moog designed these two amps to fill that gap. “Musicians work hard to shape their sound,” said Joe Richardson, President at Moog Music. “They deserve amplification that delivers it honestly, consistently, and exactly as intended.”

Both amps keep the signal path analogue, so there’s no processing latency between hitting a key and hearing it from the cabinet, and both are tuned for a flat response. “Every great electronic instrument has its own sonic identity,” Richardson added. “Model 112 and Model 210 were designed to preserve that identity, not color it.”

The Model 112 is the more portable of the two. It runs 440 watts RMS through a bi-amplified 12-inch woofer and 1-inch compression driver, with a frequency response of 40Hz to 20kHz and a top handle on a 21.7kg cabinet. The Model 210 steps up to 550 watts RMS in a 2.5-way design, pairing two 10-inch woofers with the same compression driver. One woofer covers the full range and the other extends the low end down to 35Hz. At 31.7kg it’s the heavier unit, so Moog has given it side handles and removable casters.

Each amp has a four-channel analogue stereo mixer built in, with four stereo inputs and a microphone preamp on the first channel. That’s enough to run a synth, a drum machine, a second keyboard and a vocal mic through one box. A three-band Baxandall EQ shapes the overall mix, Bluetooth 6.0 handles backing tracks or reference audio, and a headphone output covers silent practice. For bigger gigs, balanced XLR and TRS outputs send the mix to front of house, and Stereo Link connects two compatible Moog amps for a full stereo setup.
