A new take on iconic tone arrives for the first time, paired with the return of a compact classic.

MESA/Boogie has announced the Mark IIC+ HRG amplifier, bringing the legendary HRG format to the IIC+ platform for the first time. Alongside the release, the 1×12 Vintage Thiele Cabinet is returning to the lineup.

Mark IIC+ HRG

The HRG—Hundred-Watt/Reverb/Graphic EQ—sits at the top of the Mark IIC+ family tree. This format dates back to the original Mark I days when Randall Smith was building amps from an expanded menu at the Lagunitas Shop, where “HRG” became the chassis code for the fully loaded model.

What makes it special? Features like massive clean headroom in Rhythm Mode before clipping, tighter low-end tracking than the Simul IIC+ in Lead Mode, and the kind of authority that made it John Petrucci’s go-to throughout his Dream Theatre career. It’s the same 100-watt platform that inspired the JP-2C signature model, pairing one of the most expressive preamps ever designed with a power section built for maximum girth.

Doug West, Director of Tone Lab at Gibson Amplifiers and MESA/Boogie, sums it up: “impressive headroom for clean work, super-tight low end for modern gain sounds, and maximum girth and authority across any style.”

1×12 Vintage Thiele Cabinet

Back by popular demand, the compact, ported 1×12 Thiele became synonymous with massive tone during the ’80s, delivering notoriously low-end punch far beyond its size. Originally designed for an Electro-Voice EVM12L speaker, this reissue now comes loaded with MESA’s proprietary Celestion C90 for a more forgiving, overdrive-friendly voice that handles high-gain styles while maintaining its signature tight, punchy character.

Available in black vinyl or wicker grille finishes, it’s the perfect companion to the HRG or any Mark Series rig.
