The thrash metal legends will debut their self-titled farewell record as a cinematic film across 1,000+ cinemas worldwide on 22 January, one day before its official release.

Megadeth are taking their final studio album to the big screen. The thrash metal pioneers have partnered with Trafalgar Releasing for a one-night cinema event on 22 January 2025, giving fans worldwide an exclusive first listen to their self-titled swansong ahead of its 23 January release.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Megadeth: Behind the Mask will screen in over 1,000 cinemas across 35+ countries, combining the album’s world premiere with a 40-year career retrospective. Frontman Dave Mustaine provides track-by-track commentary on the new record, while sharing previously untold stories from the band’s four-decade reign as one of metal’s most influential forces.

“This listening event is going to be amazing,” says Mustaine. “I can’t wait to share it with thousands of my closest friends around the world. I have so much gratitude for everyone who helped bring this film to life, especially you, the fans! Now let’s fire this up… and pass the popcorn!”

Tickets go on sale 11 December, with a trailer dropping the same day. Fans can register for updates at megadethfilm.com.

The new album marks a full-circle moment for Megadeth, who’ve sold 50 million records worldwide since ’83. Released via Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in partnership with Frontiers Label Group’s BLKIIBLK label, the record is set for release on the 23rd of January. Two tracks have already been unleashed: “I Don’t Care” and lead single “Tipping Point”. Fans of metal might be intrigued to know the record includes a reimagined version of “Ride the Lightning”–the Metallica classic Mustaine co-wrote with James Hetfield, Cliff Burton and Lars Ulrich for their 1984 album.

“This isn’t just another Megadeth album: it features a bold reimagining,” says Kymberli Frueh, EVP Programming and Content Acquisitions at Trafalgar Releasing. “This cinema event is a celebration of the riffs, the intensity and the uncompromising spirit that have defined Megadeth’s legacy.”

The current lineup, Mustaine, Teemu Mäntysaari (guitars), James LoMenzo (bass) and Dirk Verbeuren (drums), have crafted what they’re calling their boldest work yet. Given their track record includes platinum albums Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying? and Rust in Peace, plus a Grammy win for Dystopia‘s title track, that’s no small claim.

For a band whose blast radius has shaped metal since the Reagan era, the Megadeth film offers something rare: a chance to experience their final studio statement collectively, exactly as intended.
